Forms
My work explores some of the
qualities of the ‘book’. These book structures and forms analyse
the notion of repeat through the unity of paper and metal. I use paper
and card to convey visual information rather than readable text and the
metal enables this information to exist in three dimensions.
Skyscrapers and cityscapes supply the basis for the structural and surface
inspiration for my work, echoing repeating forms as part of a building
and through a city. On initial viewing the pieces exude a sense of fragility,
the reality being that the work requires physical engagement, to be touched,
moved, re-arranged.
During 2003 I have produced some pieces working in collaboration with
poet Rupert Mallin. I found the structural layout of Ruperts’ works
to be of particular inspiration and we have produced a joint book called
‘confidence’.
